A day in the life of a Cook intern

My name is Sam Adams and I am the Reproductive Health intern this summer. I am going to take you through a day in the life of an intern at Cook Medical!

Not-so-average day

My day at Cook starts between 8:23 to 8:29 am. I get to my desk, check my email, and then get to work. The normal day will consist of editing PowerPoints, working on a digital textbook I am creating for training, and going to any meetings my SBU is having that day. While this might sound like a boring and mundane day, it is anything but that.

My job at Cook this summer is not to do busy work that my boss does not feel like doing. My job at Cook this summer is to create a vital piece of training material that will help the Reproductive Health sales force all across the globe. I was not given a specific set of rules on what to do. I do not have anyone watching over my shoulder all day. Instead, I was given an important project where I have to critically think about the best way to do it.

This is the normal way Cook treats their interns. They give us projects that will impact the company and give us the freedom to make them our own. However, we are not just thrown into the deep end of the pool and told to swim. Instead, Cook gives us the guidance, people, and resources to learn, grow, and become better people.

We also get to have fun

Another unique aspect of the internship program at Cook is all of the hands-on activities the interns get to experience. The anatomy lab at the Life Sciences building was a favorite for most of us. [vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″]

Everyone also enjoyed the two-day culture connect program with all of Cooks interns in the United States. Also, we participate in interactive case studies from a different business unit than the unit we are working in. This allows us to read about a case, learn about what Cook products would be used in that case, a present our findings to fellow interns and employees. All of these events have not only been a good time, but they have been a great chance to connect, share ideas, and really get to know a lot of people at Cook.

Capstone

One aspect of my internship that I am really excited about is the Capstone presentation. This is a 20-30 minute presentation that every Cook intern has to present at the end of the summer. Each presentation will be different, but the main focus is what you have learned during your time at Cook. It really gives all of the interns a chance to improve their presentation skills, show their creativity, and show how much they accomplished this summer.

If you want to see a fun, interactive Capstone presentation, and learn about Reproductive Health and training techniques…
