A different kind of patient – the four-legged kind

Happy New Year, everyone.

It’s been a very busy year, with a lot of changes and a lot of hard work from all of you. In January, we will send you a new company update webcast discussing how we closed out 2017 and our plans for 2018.

One area of Cook Group business we haven’t shared much about is Cook Animal Health, our newest life sciences company. This small team has quietly been focused on finding ways to adopt proven products into use for farm and companion animals. They are hoping to launch their first product soon and are conducting clinical trials on it now. The video below tells the story of one of the four-legged patients in that clinical trial.

Thank you for everything we have accomplished this year and your flexibility as we make changes that will prepare us for the future. See you in 2018.

-Pete

  1. Truly great story! Being a horse owner myself this is great to know. Proud to work for a company that not only has the human at heart but also the animal at heart. Thanks for sharing all the great stories.

  2. Just another one of the many reasons why Cook is such an awesome company! I’m beyond proud of what we do to help improve the lives of the two legged and now four legged kind!

  3. What a story! It is so hard to comprehend in my mind how wonderful it must feel to know that someone somewhere came up with this procedure and somebody listened to them and was able to make this story possible. CONGRATULATIONS. IT FEELS GREAT TO BE A PART OF ALL THIS.

  4. What a beautiful story of promising hope for our four legged loved ones! Thanks CAH, CBI and everyone involved with this project.

  5. Great story and another example of the diverse application and benefit of SIS technology. Will look forward to hearing more when this product is commercially available.

  6. Great video. It really gives a good representation of what happened and how useful this product will be in routine animal care – I know I would use it on my animals. Thanks to CBI for creating this product for animal use.

  7. Wow! Thank you so very much sharing the wonderful direction Cook is taking in steps to heal our 4 legged friends as well as our 2 or less. I am blessed to be a part of the company providing such a special act of kindness and caring.

  8. Happy New Year All. It looks like Cook is continuing to advance for the betterment of both human and animal kind; would not expect less.
BTW who came up with the idea that part of pigs could. be used to heal a human?

  9. This is so fascinating to read – as an owner of two horses, like Debbie, I know how accident prone they are! I actually started in Cook Vet 18 years ago selling Vet Biosist for wound tissue regeneration and it still has so much potential to offer veterinary medicine. So good to see.

  10. Does it have any effect (positive/negative) on the incidence of proud flesh (granulation tissue)? In the video it says the cut was to the bone, can you pack the wound with the powder (wet it down and pack it as a paste for more severe wounds)? Would it be suitable for wounds that are more difficult to cover e.g. puncture wound to the chest? Very interested on how the SIS interacts with host cells, how much scaring is left behind, hair regrowth?

^ Me being a horse owner that has a very keen interested in Veterinary Medicine as well. My vet used to use Cook products back when we had our veterinary range and was quite sad when we closed that business unit.

  11. Hi Pete,

What makes Cook amazing? Stories like the one you shared about medical procedures for animals.

My dog has had genetic hip issues for years. I hope one day that we will be able to help her; Bindi.

Until then, I can’t wait to hear more about Cook’s work to help animals.

    Take care,
    Dana

  12. This is a fantastic story!! Linking the clinical benefits of this product to an emerging market like companion animals and private payers is huge. I look forward to watching this technology grow.

  13. Great story… Happy to see that we are not only here for patients but also for animals! Looking forward to hear more.
